NEW YORK–()–Avocados from Mexico (AFM) today announced that 13-year old Hailey Krochmal of Greensboro, N.C., was selected as the Grand Prize Winner of the Mini Chef Video Contest. The video contest gave youth ages 5-15 a chance at chef stardom by uploading a 1-3 minute video preparing a kid-friendly avocado recipe. Entries included recipes from wraps to brownies to homemade ice cream, but Hailey, aka “Chef Avo,” stood out to win the Grand Prize.

The Mini Chef Video Contest aimed to educate parents on the nutritious benefits avocados have on growing children and how easily they can be incorporated into kid-friendly meals. Avocados from Mexico are a nutrient dense fruit that contains nearly 20 vitamins and minerals essential for child development and growth. One serving of creamy green fruit packs potassium, fiber, folate, vitamin C, E and B-complex vitamins that support memory and brain function.
Video entries were submitted on the AFM website and a panel of judges chose the top 10 finalists, which were then voted for by the public on AFM’s YouTube channel by using the “Like” button. Nearly 1,500 people voted with 433 votes going to Hailey, making her the winner. Hailey was awarded $1,000, an HD camcorder, Nintendo 3D with her choice of two games and a personalized chef’s jacket. Her video is featured on the video section of the AFM website.
Hailey’s energy and the style of her video impressed the judges. In under three minutes, she captivated her audience and had them yearning for her “muy delicioso” Avo Wrap. Inviting you into her kitchen with joyful Mexican music in the background, she declares, “The one rule in my kitchen, kids, is to always cook with avocados- they taste great, they make you sharp as a tack and they are healthy for you!” She goes on to create a wrap filled with the avocado, shredded chicken, onion, salsa and corn – an easy, tasty and kid-friendly recipe.
The Mini Chef Video Contest gave Hailey a chance to express her love for acting and of course, avocados. Plenty of thought and effort went into the video production and, with the help of her family, the production was a success.
